From US FIRST, we continue to share the experiences of people who have put themselves first, and in doing so, turned their lives around. If you missed the last interview with Begoña Rodrigo, you can still discover the MICHELIN star chef's story here.
In this new edition, we welcome Arturo Gil Bordés, a public relations professional in beauty, cosmetic science, and wellness, as a key member of the U/1ST team. Our protagonist shares his vision of what it means to work as a PR in the beauty industry: striking a balance between commitment to work and self-care. |
Begin by prioritisingIn the realm of public relations, where multitasking is the order of the day, Arturo Gil Bordés embodies the balance between work and personal well-being. Amidst numerous events, calls, and meetings, Arturo has discovered the secret to self-care: prioritising his well-being. This approach has been a revelation for both his career and personal life. |
A story of determinationIt is a fact that Arturo Gil is betting on himself. Born in San Fernando, he was raised amidst his father's engineering and his mother's literature. He chose to embrace both and convey science because, for him, "beauty is also science." Our protagonist began to carve his own path when he left Cádiz to study in Madrid. In the bustling metropolis, he spent 14 years working at an agency, leading a life at a frenetic pace that he ultimately set aside to prioritise himself: "At some point, I realised I was losing sight of the most important thing: my well-being. Therefore, I decided to prioritise myself," he says. Thus, he concluded it was time to make a change. This illustrates how he made the leap into freelance work, a choice that not only provided him with greater control over his time but also allowed him to telecommute "from home, Cadiz, or wherever I might be" and achieve a balance between his personal and professional life. "The greatest advantage of freelancing is the ability to choose with whom I work. I engage only in projects that truly excite me and are supported by strong scientific evidence," he states. |
Communicating beauty with substanceArturo is a clear example of how communication, with passion and purpose, can transform the way we understand beauty. Through his work, he demonstrates that beauty is not merely superficial but profoundly linked to science, research, and innovation. In an industry where everyone desires recognition, Arturo always remembers that, above all, it is crucial to make an impact with substance. "Judgement is more crucial than ever, and the beauty press has a crucial part to play. This is where I come in. My criteria are straightforward: quality and seriousness." In addition, Arturo explains that consumers are increasingly focusing on beauty product formulations, opting for products that not only beautify but, above all, care for the skin: "Today's makeup not only beautifies, it also cares, as is the case with U/1ST," he explains. This extensive apprenticeship does not occur in isolation; rather, it embodies the influence of three of its most vital pillars: "Marta Barroso and Teresa de la Cierva are my godmothers in the profession, and Manuela Llagostera is my mentor. From them, I learned that communication is much more than merely selling; it is about adding value." |
The power of putting yourself firstArturo, through his experience, reminds us that success is not only about achieving professional goals; it also involves discovering personal well-being. "I decided to prioritise my health, both physical and mental. In such a demanding environment, it's easy to lose sight of oneself. I made sure that didn't happen to me." Arturo is committed to achieving a balance between pursuing his passion and not neglecting what is essential: oneself. "Life is much more than working non-stop. It is about finding time to care for yourself," he asserts, reminding us that prioritising oneself should be significant for everyone. As Arturo rightly says, "Everything in life is about making decisions. And making choices begins with prioritising yourself." So, when will you begin? |
